Tina Pippin
"Jesus was a poor man": Encountering Jesus in History and Culture
Sunday May 5, 2024 @ 2pm

Tina Pippin will explore some ways she encounters “Jesus” in social justice movements and cultural expressions. The phrase, “Jesus was a poor man,” are words that adorn the ministerial stole of Bishop William Barber. She will examine different media, especially Jesus’s appearance in the Poor Peoples’ Movement co-founded by Barber (with its origins in Eastern North Carolina), and also in art, film and fiction, using examples across centuries and in some contemporary global and diverse cultures.

Big Bang Cosmology and Divine Creation: The New Physics and the Old Metaphysics
Sunday October 20, 2024 @ 2pm

The concept of God as Creator is not tied to any particular cosmology, but has endured even as our scientific cosmologies have radically changed. This talk will explore the outline and history of our current cosmological thinking, and how it both challenges and expands our traditional metaphysics.
